Help Katie Fight GIST Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tiffany and I am fundraising for my two young daughters’ step mom Katie. Setting up this Go Fund Me and asking for help hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but Katie is currently fighting for her life and we are at a financial crisis when it comes to getting her the treatment she needs. She plays an important role in my children’s lives, their love for her is unconditional and the thought of her leaving them behind is tragic. Katie has assumed an important role in their lives and continues to do so even through her own medical and emotional struggles.
Katie is 35 years old and has been fighting GIST cancer for 4.5 years. She has been unable to work since February 2021 and has been living on a limited income fighting to support herself and her step daughters.
In February 2021, Katie had a surgery in Canada to remove the cancer that affected her intestinal tract. This worked and she was clear for some time, but then the cancer came back in her liver. At this time the oncologists in Canada pretty much had given her zero hope and Katie had to find other means to save her own life. It was then that she came upon a surgical trial in the U.S. She was accepted and in July of 2024 she travelled to Washington, DC where they removed 4 tumours (one being 10cm in diameter) and did ablation on the remaining tumours that they could not remove. The was successful and Katie was doing well, but the unforeseen happened and in January 2025 she was informed that the cancer had returned. Her most recent MRI shows 9 tumours in total with the largest currently being 3.5cm. Again, oncologists have given her no hope, but after doing research and finding an oncologist to help, she has been given the opportunity to attend a new trial in the U.S.
This trial is a medical systemic trial that uses 2 drugs to stop the growth of the tumours. There are currently 144 people in this trial and the trial has proven to have very positive outcomes thus far. She NEEDS this treatment!
The cost of this trial will be an astronomical burden and unfortunately we have no one who can help. Without this last opportunity Katie’s cancer will take over. I am begging for help to save her life!
Donated funds will be used as follows:
- Initial treatment at the medial clinic in the U.S. Katie will be there for 30+ days initially
- After initial treatment Katie will need to travel to and from the U.S. monthly for 1 week at a time
- Out of pocket expenses while at the trial as well as maintaining expenses in Canada.
- Treatment is covered, everything else is not so money will be used for all other expenses
Katie was notified Wednesday April 23rd, 2025 that she has one week to be in the U.S. for the trial or she will lose her acceptance to the trial.
Katie is a beautiful human who continually gives to others even through her own struggles. She loves unconditionally and always gives back to those in need. Her love for her step daughters is unconditional and they NEED her. Katie has been dealt an awful hand of cards but this trial is the key to her being able to live a somewhat normal life. An opportunity for her to be able to be there for her step daughters and see them grow up. This is our last chance to save Katie’s life!
Any and all donations are appreciated greatly and truly will make a difference not only in Katie’s life but in all of the people’s lives who love her.
