I'm a self-employed artist who has owned and run my own jewelry business, Killer Queen Designs, for over twelve years. (My 12 year business anniversary was while I was in the hospital.) I've cosponsered community events, donated proceeds from special designs to Planned Parenthood and many local small businesses, and been an active part of the artist community in Austin for most of my adult life.

I recently spent 2 weeks incredibly sick, 10 of those days in the hospital. I had 2 CT scans, an MRI, and gallbladder removal surgery, and like many artists, I have no insurance.

This is the busiest time of year for my business, and instead of gearing up production and going to artists markets, I'm facing enormous hospital bills and a lengthy recovery time. My mobility is extremely limited, and I can't lift more than 10lbs for some time.
