I'm Katie Carter and man, oh man, has my life been crazy these past two years. I started getting very sick two years ago, and it took a year and a half to get a diagnosis. Turns out I had Ulcerative Colitis. Within 3 months of being diagnosed, it had progressed so badly my colon had to be removed.
I now have an ileostomy (I poop in a bag on my tummy). I just had a second surgery to reconstruct a rectum and will have one more to connect everything back. I will be able to use my rectum again but will always have issues and about 15 poops a day. It's going to take a lot of patience and learning on my part, but I know I can do it.
I have been out of work this whole time, but I do get disability. My partner was my main caretaker and helped more than her share with bills. Due to all the stress of this and some personal issues, she left 3 weeks before this last surgery. She has agreed to help me monetarily until my last surgery. After that, I am on my own. I can take care of all the bills; however, that's it. I won't have money for doctor's visits, food, travel, or medical bills. My doctor and hospital I use are in Birmingham, so that eats a lot of gas, and I need some car maintenance because of all the travel, which I can't afford.
I don't want to lose my house and don't want to drown in medical debt. I hate asking for help, but I desperately am going to need it. So if anyone could donate anything, I would be so grateful. I just need help till I can get back on my feet and go back to work.
