Hello Friends and Family!! Katie Akin is a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit. I am also proud to say Katie is my daughter and I love her very much. Despite major trials in her younger life, Katie has overcome a lot and managed to raise two awesome kids. Her children (my grandchildren!!), Cheyenne and Colton, are 13 and 10 years old and they are amazing young people!!!! It has not always been easy, but Katie has done her best as a single mother to raise two remarkable human beings.

Recently, Katie and the kids have suffered a major setback and they are in a bit of a crisis. Several months ago, Katie injured her left arm. The wound eventually healed over, but unknown to Katie, an infection had developed in her lower forearm. Katie experienced some discomfort, but had no idea that the infection was destroying the bone in her left forearm.

A few weeks ago while Katie was working caring for an elderly man, the bone in her left forearm snapped in two and penetrated her skin. Katie was in shock and did not know what to do. When she finally pulled herself together, she went to the Emergency Room at Harris Hospital. The fracture was severe and the infection was awful. Of course, Katie was admitted to the hospital. The arm was somewhat stabilized and they began treating the infection.

Over the past four weeks, multiple procedures have been performed on her arm to clean out the infection and begin repairing the damage. Katie has had to remain in the hospital to receive intravenous antibiotics, oral antibiotics and other medication, as well as manage the excruciating pain she is experiencing.

Katie has made tremendous progress, but she remains in the hospital, and she faces more surgeries for the foreseeable future. The staff and doctors are doing everything they can to save Katie’s arm. The infection is greatly reduced. However, the infection persists and it must be COMPLETELY gone in order for the bone to be repaired and for Katie to keep her arm.

Katie was struggling to pay the bills and take care of her kids before any of this happened. This has been devastating to them in so many ways. Now, the normal bills of life are coming due and the medical bills are stacking up. Of course, Katie cannot work so any income she had is gone. We are all pitching in, but we can only do so much..
