My name is Katie, and I am a 41-year-old student who has faced many challenges over the years, including mental illness and physical disabilities. Having grown up poor and being poor my whole life, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to break the cycle of poverty. Despite these obstacles, I made the decision to return to school and pursue a business administration degree. This past summer, I began my college journey with accelerated classes, determined to create a better life for myself and finally change my circumstances.


I am proud to share that I have made the Dean’s List at NMC for the past two consecutive semesters, and I currently hold a 3.9 GPA. Balancing my studies with the daily realities of living with disabilities is not easy, but I am committed to pushing forward. I am passionate about learning and excited for the opportunities that a degree in business administration will open up for me. However, the costs of living expenses and school supplies add up quickly, and it can be overwhelming to manage everything on my own.
