Help Katia Walk the Camino de Santiago

“In his deepest being, man is always on a journey, ever in search of truth.” (Pope Benedict XVI at the welcome ceremony at the international airport in Santiago de Compostella).

Hello! My name is Katia Healy and I am a junior Nursing Student at Ave Maria University. I am hoping to walk a part of the Camino this summer!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “Pilgrimages evoke our earthly journey toward heaven ..." (CCC 2691). A pilgrimage is a chance to detach from the world and get to know oneself and God more fully.

A pilgrimage to walk the famed Camino de Santiago in Spain is one of the most transformational experiences a young adult can have—spiritually, mentally, and physically. The Camino de Santiago is a walking pilgrimage through the countryside of Spain. The tradition of walking the Camino dates back to the early 9th century. Along with other Ave Maria students and faculty, I will be walking more than approximately 90 miles of the Camino this summer. We will start our pilgrimage in the small village of O’Cebreiro, the location of a 14th century Eucharistic miracle, and end in the city of Santiago where the bones of the Apostles St. James are buried in a magnificent Cathedral.

This trip is an opportunity of a lifetime. Any financial support you can offer to help me to go on this pilgrimage is greatly appreciated. I would also like to bring your prayer intentions with me. Please let me know how I can pray for you and your family!

Sincerely,

Katia Healy
