Help Kathy Recovery Medically With Ease!

Hi Everyone! Many of you know my Aunt Kathy! And if you don't let me tell you a little bit about her... She would give her shirt off her back to anyone, go out of her way to make you smile, and never let anyone go without anything! She is caring, loving, stubborn, funny, and just a great person to be around. Her extreme stubbornness is why I am here today asking for you help. After months of back pain, fatigue, and the start of some leg/hip pain… Aunt Kathy finally caved and went to Urgent Care on Saturday March 9th. When she arrived at Urgent Care the Doctor wanted her to go right to the Hospital via Ambulance. After multiple X-rays, CT scans, blood work, EKGs, etc... She was wheeled into Emergency Surgery by 11pm that night. Her left kidney was infected and taken over by a large Staghorn Kidney stone. She was in renal failure and septic. The first surgery to drain the infection and fluid did not take. She was transferred to another hospital, where a plan was put in place, and she was given multiple antibiotics to attempt to treat as much of the infection as possible. Her Kidney removal surgery was then Scheduled for Tuesday the 11Th. After waiting over 6 hours (for a surgery that we were told would be about 2 hours) she was finally sent up to ICU. The surgery was critical. Had she not gone into the hospital when she did; she would not be here today. She had extensive damage internally due to the infection, she was tachycardic, she had an abscess that had taken over her kidney and was around her spleen, and free floating fluid in her abdomen. Although the doctors knew all that they still did not know exactly what the surgery might consist of. Due to how medically fragile Aunt Kathy was prior she required a Cardiologist, Urologist team, and General Surgery team in the OR along with several anesthesiologists. Her Urologist said after the surgery and I quote "I've been doing this for over 20 years and this was by far the toughest kidney removal I have ever experienced. I have never seen a kidney stone cement themselves to the inside of a kidney like this before". Not only did she require a Nephrectomy (her left kidney removed), Splenectomy (her spleen removed), and a Pancreatectomy (part of her pancreas removed), But she had to have some of her back muscles removed and scraped due to the extent of the abscess and infection. The fact that this rare kidney stone caused all of this is still baffling to all of us. Aunt Kathy has a VERY long road of recovery ahead of her. And she is going to be furious for asking for help but she will need it. Her job and working is so important to her. Without her knowing when/if she can return to work; this might be able to help relieve some of her stress so she can recover without worries. Aunt Kathy is very private and would never ask for help from anyone! Many of you might not even know all she has recently endured over the last few weeks! That is why I am asking for help with her current & upcoming medical bills, prescriptions, out of pocket medical expenses, she will require multiple appointments weekly, any housing adjustments needed, and every day finances as she recovers. Aunt Kathy is currently still in the hospital, is on multiple medications, still has 4 drains coming out of her abdomen, needs some assistance moving around, and will receive long term PT. She is incredibly stubborn (as I have mentioned before) and she will persevere but it is going to take time.
With that said if you can make a donation it would be extremely appreciated! If can't make a donation it is totally understandable! If you would be willing to share this page Awesome! and most importantly If you could keep her in her prayers as she recovers we would all be extremely grateful! Thank you to all those who can support in anyway possible! Many have asked about making or sending meals when she gets home. Due to the extensive surgery (and multiple organ removals) she is on a very restricted diet for the time being. Her body needs time to adjust. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank You All Again XOXO
