Help Kathy Move Closer to Her Daughter

Let me introduce myself, my name is Kathy. I will be turning sixty-five in a few months, and I'm reaching out to you in desperation. Please let me share my story with you.

At the age of thirty-seven, I was diagnosed with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). My symptoms started gradually, first with blurry vision in my right eye. Then, over the course of the next five years, MS attacked my body quickly. I developed dropped foot and needed a cane to steady myself while I walked. This eventually led to needing a walker, and finally a wheelchair. Extreme fatigue and weakness soon became a continual daily struggle. I became dependent on family for my caregiving and fell into a deep state of guilt and depression. Along the destructive course of my MS journey, it tore my marriage apart, ending thirty-three years of marriage. I also, couldn't continue to perform my job duties, and with much anguish and reluctance, I had to quit.

I soon realized I was not able to take care of myself. So, for the last twenty-eight years, I've spent most of my life in nursing homes. Due to the severity of this disease on my body, I need total care with all activities of daily living. I have partial use of my left arm and can use a computer with adaptive devices and operate an electric wheelchair.

Now that you know a little about me, I'll explain why I turned to GoFundMe. I'm trying to raise enough funds, to move from Maryland to Florida, to live closer to my only daughter. In order to make the move, I'd like to buy a used .wheelchair accessible van. I need to put a sizable down payment down in order to keep the payments low.

I would like to hire a Florida Medicaid Planning Attorney to expedite and navigate through the Medicaid process to transfer me into a Florida nursing home. The attorney fees will cost five thousand dollars.
