"Kick ass Kathy" will be entering OHSU on Monday June 19 for a bone marrow transplant to treat her acute leukemia. She will be hospitalized for several weeks, and Kelsie will be living with her at the hospital. This next critical phase of treatment follows several weeks of inpatient chemo at Kaiser this spring.
Family and friends have been enormously supportive of Kathy and Kelsie while they have been coping with this. Many of you have asked if you can help financially. The answer is yes!
We can help kick ass by donating to a fund to defray expenses related to this illness. As you can imagine, there are significant uncovered medical expenses. Kathy has a good Medicare plan, but there are deductibles and co-pays in the thousands of dollars. There are travel expenses for Kathy's sister, Joan, who is a perfect match donor. Although friends will take the dogs for much of the coming hospitalization, K and K paid boarding costs for much of the prior hospitalization. And we can be sure there will be unanticipated expenses in the future.
This first goal of $5000 does not cover all the expenses, but is an initial ask. Anything you can do will help, whether it is $1000 or $10. When you make the donation, you can indicate if you want it to be private.
