Hi, My name is Kathy Miller, well-known to many for Sandy Oak Chesapeakes. As some of you may know, I lost my daytime job a year ago August when the company I worked for 30 years sold the business and terminated my position. They did not provide a retirement program, and, as I am 79 years old now I've been left with only Social Security to cover my living expenses...which it currently does NOT! I have applied for all programs available to seniors with low incomes to lower my monthly expenses and I can't find anymore needles in the proverbial haystack. And to stop a tentative bank foreclosure now on my home due to rising interest rates, I've just applied for a Reverse Mortgage which thankfully has been approved conditionally pending some required home repairs. Inasmuch as the appraised home value came in lower than needed I can only take out $10,000 up front from this mortgage to cover the repairs. Estimated repair cost is $20,000 with friends and myself doing the work. so I am obviously short by about $10,000 which I do not have. So I need to raise the $10,000 to complete the repairs, then the reverse mortgage will close successfully allowing me and my animals to live comfortably in my home of many years on my social security income. Ergo, I am eating my Irish pride and asking my friends to assist with financial help so my home does not go into foreclosure ending up homeless like a lot of other poor folks in this country!
