Help Kathy Finish What She Started

If you know my wife Kathy or if you’ve ever heard me talk about her you will know just how amazing, loving, sweet, intelligent and thoughtful she really is. She has been an inspiration to so many people through this journey we call life and I am incredibly blessed to be her husband and proud to call her the mother of our children.
I was very reluctant to share this story but behind my upbeat positive Facebook, Instagram posts and tweets (sarcasm) Kathy has been struggling with the physical and mental pain of medical issues for years now. And it’s heartbreaking. In 2012 Kathy began an amazing weight loss journey and lost 255 lb that year alone. Not only did she make herself physically fit but she helped others along they way as a personal trainer. Unfortunately, the pressures of being overweight and those of pregnancy resulted in problems weight loss alone could not fix.
1. Fatty tissue in the lower abdomen resulting from a C section or possibly a hernia is causing tremendous pain but the doctor can’t tell without surgery.
2. Her abdominal muscles have separated because of childbirth and her previous weight.
3. The rapid weigh loss has left her with a mass of excess skin that will not go away naturally.
We have seen multiple doctors and have pleaded our case but sadly the surgeries are NOT covered by the medical system so we are asking for any help our friends and family can give, even shares...
At our last consult the doctor advised she can repair the abdominal area, correct the fat tissue scar area/Hernia in addition to correcting the loose skin. 100% of any and all donations we receive will go towards the procedure from Macdonald Plastic Surgery in New Westminster. The cost of the procedures will be $17,348.63 plus hospital fees approx $1700.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and stay safe out there during these difficult times.

Kathy's Story:
For As long as I can remember, I was overweight...I was probably called every name in the book at school but I would just think to myself, it’s ok, I’m active and I’m just ‘big boned’. This continued for most of my life until I had my first child. I was a single mom raising this beautiful little girl and knew I had to do something better for her and be the best mom that I could be. I lost a good chunk of weight and started to enjoy life with her.
Along the way I met my husband. As the story goes...we met, got engaged, got pregnant and got married (yes in that order lol) very quickly. I became bed ridden with my pregnancy, gained all the weight back plus a lot more. I became depressed , lazy and just didn’t care about taking care of myself anymore. I was so obese I developed osteoarthritis in my knees. It was so bad that one day as I was walking my 10yr old daughter to School (a 12 min. walk) with my 3 yr old son in the stroller I had to leave her to continue walking by herself because I had to turn around from being in so much pain. This broke my heart . I was always sick, and in pain and trying to chase around a very energetic 3yr old boy. I knew I couldn’t live my life like this anymore, my kids deserved better from me. So on January 2nd 2012, I started my journey. In just 11 months I lost 255 lbs naturally just by changing my eating habits and started exercising.
I felt amazing, I was happier, healthier, and a better mom. I was able to sit and play with my kids without struggling to get up off the floor. I knew this time I was going to keep the weight off. This is how I wanted to live, this is what my kids deserved!
Fast forward to today, it’s been almost 9 yrs and I’ve kept the weight off. there’s definitely been some bumps along the way. When I went back to work, I was put In a very stressful position and ending up gaining about 50-60 lbs back. Then covid happened. I knew it was now or never to take advantage of being at home all day and having the time to exercise and take time to plan out my meals. So for the last 8-9 months I’ve been working my ass off to get to a comfortable healthy weight for myself. In doing this I realized that I could workout all day long but nothing will help my situation other than surgery. Im finally freed of all the weight I carried for years but still feeling trapped inside a body that reminds me of all the pain and struggle. Ive worked so hard to get to where I am, I just want to be 100% comfortable in my skin (no pun intended ) . I know life is a journey and I will always struggle with my weight but this would be one stepping stone to help me.
So with the encouragement of my family and friends, we ask for some help. Thank you for all your support and love !
