Helping Kathy become mobile…
Those who know Kathy describe her as sweet, funny, loving, and always optimistic, even in the direst of situations.
In her 20s, Kathy suffered a stroke that left her immobile. Further complications over the years, such as Lupus and other serious medical issues, left her wheelchair bound for life. Her knee has been removed, she does not have use of her right arm, and has fragile bones that break easily.
Kathy is living in a full-time care facility and cannot easily leave this facility due to lack of a wheelchair-equipped vehicle, which is necessary to help transport her outside of the facility. For Kathy to attend a doctor’s appointment or visit her children’s home is quite an ordeal and takes days of planning to secure appropriate transportation. This often results in missing doctor’s appointments and being able to freely see her children.
Our rally for help is for purchasing of a wheelchair-equipped van to make Kathy more mobile. Our goal is to allow her to more easily be transported from the care facility. Allowing her to make and keep doctor appointments, see her children more regularly, and to just get out of the care facility. Going out for a simple lunch at a restaurant is an enormous treat for Kathy but is an experience she rarely gets to enjoy presently. These everyday experiences are something that most of us take for granted.
We will spend the money on the purchase of an older used wheelchair equipped vehicle.
For those of you that have met Kathy, you know how special of a person she is. Even though she restricted to a wheelchair for the rest of her life, has no use of her right arm, and is limited to living in a full-time care facility, she is one of the most positive people you will meet. She does not let these circumstances get her down. Instead, she is more worried about how everyone else is doing and is the first to offer moral support to others. She is not asking for our help but needs it to help her become more mobile.
