GO FUND ME
Hi. I’m Sheri Hill and I’m creating a Go Fund Me Campaign for my mom, Kathryn Brewer. She is now forced to abandon her home in Asheville, North Carolina, and the life that she loved there due to Hurricane Helene that happened September 27,2024.
Those of you who know her will not be surprised to hear that she is seeing this as an opportunity to recreate an even more expanded life. However, the facts are that the toxic air from the debris and dust created by clean-up and excavation of the sometimes ten-foot-high mud which holds countless chemicals, metals and organic remains make her sick if she is in her house, even with a mask, for more than 2.5 hours. Like several of her friends who also are highly sensitive energy workers, she must find a place to live that is far enough away from the most intense flooding that the air is minimally polluted.
You also probably will not be surprised to know that she had an intuition to leave Asheville a day earlier than her planned weekend trip to be with her sister in South Carolina even before the storm was predicted to be extreme. She drove through blinding rain with times of zero visibility, seeing cars ahead of her that were swept off the road by streams of water. She “knew” that she would make it and did only two hours before all roads into and out of Asheville were closed. This, along with the media videos of beloved places completely destroyed and a complete block of communication with me, her daughter, and all friends added up to shock and PTSD. If you know anyone else who experienced Helene, know they are living with some level of PTSD. Her planned three-day trip has turned into over three months.
After power and toxic water were restored, she returned to her home on October 11th. More shock came from the remaining devastation around her and in her yard but fortunately not inside her home. The level of toxicity in the water made it unfit to touch skin or wash dishes so she continued to live in South Carolina until water toxicity was reduced. As she went back to Asheville to retrieve things she needed and spent time in her house, she noticed that after a couple of hours she had physical symptoms usually associated with the presence of toxins and would start to feel like she had the flu. By early November a more extended day in her house left her in bed recuperating for three days. Her doctor confirmed chemical toxicity syndrome. She reluctantly and with tears accepted that she could not go back to her home in beloved Asheville.
She has finally found a new home in Hendersonville, North Carolina. This entails paying double rent and utilities for two months plus deposit and moving costs that are increased since she cannot stay in her home to do the packing and organizing. There are additional costs from the three-hour drive from South Carolina to North Carolina multiple times and medical expenses from the physical toll on her body. Since the new program that she had been focused on creating for months and was slated to launch in late October relied on local people and venues and her own clear and present focus, that program and its primary income source was also a loss of the disaster. She is struggling to cover these unplanned expenses and continue to create the unique and valuable offerings to make a difference in other’s lives. These funds will be used to pay the costs of moving, healthcare and the costs of 3 months of displacement have created.
I have convinced my mom that if people who she has helped and cared about knew her situation, they might want to help. So, if you feel called to and have the resources to donate any amount toward the goal of her mul. oving and healing expenses, that would be deeply appreciated. And equally treasured would be any love and energy support you send across the miles that touch her heart and feed her soul.
As a thank you anyone who donates will receive a mini e-book from mom of her poems titled "Insights", plus the poem stimulated by Helene titled "Sunset."
