Kathmandu Boutique is grateful for all your help

Namaste dear community! We’re reaching out to ask for your help to keep Kathmandu Boutique alive. Covid-19 affected us in obvious ways and we received some cooperation from our landlord but not enough to sustain us. We applied for a loan from the government and are awaiting approval but it’s been months and now that things have begun to open up, we are under pressure to perform as if it’s business as usual yet we don’t have enough active customers to do so. Spring and Summer festivals are one of our main income sources and as we all know, festival season was completely canceled this year.
We started this GoFundMe as a way to let our friends and customers know about what’s going on and to ask for help. If you’d prefer to shop instead of donate, that’s great! Our online store is open 24/7 at www.kathmanduboutique.com and our physical store in Santa Monica, California is open every day from 12 to 5pm (please wear a mask when you visit us). If you’re able to contribute something to this GoFundMe campaign, any all amounts will be graciously received. If you’re not able to shop or donate, could we ask for your help in spreading the word to family and friends who might like our store? The next week is critical for us as July approaches. We feel confident that if we receive support from our community now and throughout July that we will be able to pay our rent, bridge this gap, and stay in business.
Kathmandu Boutique has been a staple in the local and global community for 15 years. This past June 15th 2020 would have been our 15 year anniversary and bi-annual community gathering. We have been hosting events for the community since 2010, opening our doors and offering food, music, and a space for all to gather and connect.
History of Kathmandu Boutique:
Our founder, Reena Gauchan, was inspired to create this business after trying to find beautiful yet affordable ethnic gifts in stores throughout Los Angeles, without success. She first started selling items from Nepal (her homeland) at festivals, street fairs, and farmer’s markets. Over the course of ten years her inventory grew and she soon needed a special space to house the unique treasures she had collected. In 2005 she found the location on Lincoln Blvd and opened Kathmandu Boutique in Santa Monica, California.
Since then we’ve been fortunate to have customers from all over the world who love to shop at the store when they are in town. They would always ask if we had a website and that’s what inspired us to build an online store to offer the same quality products and customer service to the community on a global scale. Kathmandu Boutique is a place for exploring and discovering magical and unique products from Nepal, India, Tibet and other mystical places. It is also a place of community.
In order to bridge this financial gap and survive, we would love to expand our community and make our offerings available to more people. If you are able to shop, donate, or spread the word to help us, we would be infinitely grateful for your contribution.
Namaste and Dhanyabaad (Thank You),
Kathmandu Boutique & friends.
