My name is Christie, and I’m raising funds for my friend Kathia. On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during a routine annual immigration appointment at the OC Civic Center in Santa Ana, Kathia was detained by ICE.

Her bond could be as high as $10,000. This GoFundMe is intended to help cover part of that bond, her legal fees, and to support her family while they have lost income due to her detention. We are currently working to secure the rest of the amount for her legal fees, and potential maximum bond. Every donation, no matter how small, brings her one step closer to being released. She is expected to see a judge before October 30, 2025.

Kathia is married to a U.S. citizen and was in the process of turning her conditional residency into permanent residency. Despite following all the rules and attending her appointments as required, she was handcuffed and placed in restraints, then taken to Adelanto Detention Center. Her husband was informed in the lobby that she had been detained, and everything changed in an instant. What should have been a normal, routine appointment turned into a frightening and overwhelming experience for her and everyone who loves her.

Kathia is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I know. She works long, exhausting hours as a home health aide, caring for others, even while pursuing her nursing degree. She is someone who gives so much to others, and it’s heartbreaking to see her in this situation.

I was able to visit Kathia five days after her detention. She spoke about sleepless nights, not being able to eat, and the heavy weight of being separated from her routine life. She just wants to come home, continue her work, and keep building the life she has worked so hard for.
