Hello, my name is Vilma del Carmen Guevara Leonzo, and I am reaching out with my heart in my hands to ask for help for my daughter, Katherine Melissa, a 24-year-old young woman who is facing a serious and urgent medical condition. I am a member of our local community and a DC Public Schools (DCPS) employee, and today I am asking for support not as a worker, but as a mother in a moment of deep need.

Katherine was first diagnosed with a frontal fibroma when she was only 12 years old. At that time, doctors were able to remove it through surgery, and as a mother, I felt enormous relief. We truly believed the worst was behind us. Sadly, in December 2025, new medical exams revealed that another fibroma had returned, and this time it is located in a very delicate and dangerous frontal area.

Recent diagnostic studies, including advanced scans and three-dimensional skull reconstruction imaging like the ones shown in the attached medical images, clearly show the frontal lesion and have confirmed the diagnosis.

Since then, our lives have changed completely.

Katherine now suffers from severe headaches, extreme fatigue, body pain, blurred vision, and visible swelling in her forehead. Her symptoms continue to worsen and affect her daily life. Watching my daughter go through this day after day has been one of the most painful experiences I have ever faced as a mother.

Her condition has been confirmed through official medical exams and imaging, and her doctors have told us she needs urgent surgery in the coming weeks, along with medications, hospitalization, and ongoing medical follow-up to prevent serious complications and give her a real chance to recover her health.

Katherine does not have health insurance, which makes this situation even more overwhelming. The total cost of the surgery and full treatment is estimated at $30,000, covering the procedure, hospital care, medications, and follow-up treatment, and it is far beyond what our family can afford on our own.

Katherine is not currently working or studying because she has dedicated herself to raising her 9-year-old son, Andres, as a single mother. She has always put her child first, and now she is the one who needs help so she can heal and continue being the mother he depends on.

I have done everything in my power as a mother, but at this moment, I cannot do it alone. Time is critical, and my daughter’s health and life are at risk. I am humbly asking for your support. Hola, mi nombre es Vilma del Carmen Guevara Leonzo y hoy me acerco con el corazón en la mano para pedir ayuda para mi hija, Katherine Melissa, una joven de 24 años que está enfrentando una condición médica grave y urgente. Soy miembro de la comunidad y empleada de las Escuelas Públicas de DC (DCPS), y hoy no escribo como trabajadora, sino como madre en un momento de gran necesidad.

Katherine fue diagnosticada con un fibroma frontal cuando tenía apenas 12 años. En ese momento los médicos lograron removerlo mediante cirugía y como madre sentí un gran alivio. Pensamos que lo peor había pasado. Sin embargo, en diciembre de 2025, nuevos estudios médicos confirmaron que ha regresado otro fibroma y que ahora se encuentra en una zona frontal muy delicada y peligrosa.

Los estudios diagnósticos recientes, incluyendo escaneos avanzados y reconstrucciones tridimensionales del cráneo como las que se muestran en las imágenes médicas adjuntas, muestran claramente la lesión frontal y han confirmado el diagnóstico.

Desde entonces, nuestra vida ha cambiado por completo.

Katherine sufre dolores de cabeza intensos, cansancio extremo, dolor corporal, visión borrosa y una hinchazón visible en la frente. Sus síntomas han ido empeorando y afectan su vida diaria. Ver a mi hija atravesar esto día tras día ha sido una de las experiencias más duras que he vivido como madre.

Su condición ha sido confirmada mediante exámenes médicos oficiales e imágenes diagnósticas, y los doctores han indicado que necesita cirugía urgente en las próximas semanas, además de medicamentos, hospitalización y seguimiento médico continuo para evitar complicaciones y darle una verdadera oportunidad de recuperación.

Katherine no cuenta con seguro médico, lo que hace esta situación aún más difícil. El costo total estimado de la cirugía y el tratamiento completo es de $30,000, incluyendo procedimiento, hospitalización, medicamentos y seguimiento, una cantidad imposible de cubrir para nuestra familia sin ayuda.

Actualmente no trabaja ni estudia porque ha dedicado su vida a criar a su hijo de 9 años, Andres, como madre soltera. Siempre ha puesto a su hijo primero, y hoy es ella quien necesita apoyo para poder sanar y seguir siendo la madre que él necesita.
