Help Katherine continue her college Education
My name is Katherine Soliz, a Honduran first generation student attending college in the U.S. Thinking about the future and planning for it is quite overwhelming. Over the last three years, I have felt a great amount of pressure on what the future will hold. What will love doing for the rest of my life, and what job is that? I went through many phases until the field of medicine was what intrigued me the most. It seems like a vocation that best fits my personality. Caring for patients is at the heart of medicine, and it is a great privilege to be able to help those who are at their most vulnerable.
My desire to be in the medical field started the summer of 2017 when my mother was diagnosed with Leukemia. As I watched my mother in pain, I realized that I wanted to ease the pain of others, and by doing that, I would pursue a career in the medical field. My mother’s physician, Dr. Alejandra, was very attentive to my mother’s needs. Dr. Alejandra, as well as chemotherapy, and medications saved her life. Ever since then, I have wanted to save the lives of other people, and I am willing to go through the long journey and sleepless nights.
This path will not be easy, for I will be a first-generation college student. Immigrating to the United States is an unforgettable journey. Thus far, it is my greatest accomplishment. Getting to where I am now is of great privilege. I will be attending Barry University in August 2021, in Miami Florida after graduating with a 3.96 GPA . While inHigh School I was part of the Spanish National Honor Society, English Honor Society, International Quill & Scroll Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, and National Honor Society.
Although I have worked extremely hard to obtain scholarships, grants and loans totaling $30,000, it is difficult for my mother to cover the remainder. I'm well aware of the different circumstances occurring in the world today but please find it in your heart to donate so I can continue my education. Please help me chase the dreams I started as a little girl. My hardships have gotten me to where I am today and although yes, I am an immigrant, I have bigger aspirations in life that make me more than just an immigrant. I want to save lives not just in America or my native country but in other countries as well.
Mi nombre es Katherine Soliz, una estudiante Hondureña de primera generación que asistirá a la universidad en los Estados Unidos. Pensar en el futuro y planificarlo es bastante estresante. Durante los últimos tres años, he sentido una gran presión sobre lo que depara mi futuro. ¿Qué me encantará hacer por el resto de mi vida y qué trabajo es ese? Pasé por muchas fases hasta que el campo de la medicina fue lo que más me intrigó. Parece una vocación que se adapta mejor a mi personalidad. El cuidado de los pacientes está en el corazón de la medicina, y es un gran privilegio poder ayudar a los más vulnerables.
Mi deseo de estar en el campo de la medicina comenzó el verano de 2017 cuando a mi madre le diagnosticaron leucemia. Este camino no será fácil, porque seré un estudiante universitario de primera generación. Emigrar a los Estados Unidos fue un viaje inolvidable. Hasta ahora, es mi mayor logro. Llegar a donde estoy ahora es un gran privilegio.Asistiré a la Universidad Barry en agosto de 2021, en Miami, Florida, después de graduarme con un GPA de 3.96. Mientras estaba en la escuela secundaria formé parte de la Sociedad Nacional de Honor de España, la Sociedad de Honor de Inglés, la Sociedad de Honor Internacional de Plumas y Pergaminos, la Sociedad de Honor de Estudios Sociales y la Sociedad de Honor Nacional.
Aunque he trabajado muy duro para obtener becas, subvenciones y préstamos por un total de $ 30,000, es difícil para mi madre superar el resto. Soy muy consciente de las diferentes circunstancias que ocurren en el mundo de hoy, pero por favor búsquelo en su corazón donar para que pueda continuar mi educación. Ayúdame a perseguir los sueños que comencé de niña. Mis dificultades me han llevado a donde estoy hoy y aunque sí, soy un inmigrante, tengo mayores aspiraciones en la vida que me hacen más que un inmigrante. Quiero salvar vidas no solo en Estados Unidos o en mi país natal, sino también en otros países.
