Help Katerina Kourti-Gavalas

Where can we begin? Dimitris Gavalas is someone I've known since I was "almost 4". Him and my cousin, Katerina, were two people that were a constant in my life growing up. Dimitri and Katerina would drive down from Montreal as much as they could, to come visit the only family Katerina had in the US. Dimitri & Katerina would come and sleep on the floor in our living room because they would arrive in the middle of the night, and I used to wake them up like any child ... with my face right in theirs. I would be so excited to see them and I couldn't wait to spend time with them. Dimitri loved to cook ... and we loved to eat his food. Especially those mornings, I remember him cooking up a batch of crepes (his Montreal specialty). Teaching us how to make them was almost as fun as eating them. As the years went on, Dimitri and Katerina became a staple in our house. They eventually moved to New Jersey and the whole family was so happy to be together -- especially me and my brother to have cousins finally close by. They were our only close relatives to live near us. It wasn't just every holiday, but literally every day that we were together.  Dimitri may have been the quirkiest, loving, and fun person anyone could meet. He was tall and handsome, equipped with a gorgeous set of blue eyes and a big smile. The best trait of all was his love for his wife. No one loved anyone as much as he loved Katerina. 35 years together and at times you would think they just met. He was the prime example of an honest and loving man- just in the way he treated his wife.  We were a very close and tight-knit family who valued each other's company immensely.  He may have been married to my blood cousin, but to me he was my family. He was my Mitso and he will be missed deeply. Mitso, thank you for loving us as your own ... thank you for being such an amazing human being. You touched so many people and I can guarantee that not one person has something bad to say about you. As I write this, I'm still in shock that I won't ever see you again. You were taken from us all too soon ... but we were very fortunate to have you in our lives. To Katerina--- we love you and we will always be here for you. Mitso -- Kalo Paradiso (as they say in Greek: Blessed Paradise in Heaven). Until we meet again... say hi to our puppies up there <3 This GoFundMe is to help with Funeral Arrangements from the tragic loss of our dear cousin. Also, we are asking you to donate in lieu of flowers to his beautiful memory. Beloved Husband to Katerina, Son, brother, and nephew. May God Bless you all for helping raise this money. We pray that this virus doesn't take anymore innocent and beautiful souls.
