Help Katerina Wen Heal and Recover
Donation protected
Our friend Katerina Wen needs your help. On May 23rd, just hours after arriving in New York City she was brutally attacked and left unconscious on a city sidewalk. She spent days in a hospital in and out of consciousness and her whereabouts unknown to her friend she was there to meet and her husband Nicholas back in Basel. Nicholas located her days later in a New York hospital receiving minimal care.
Understanding the details of the horror Katerina went through is sketchy as she cannot recall the incident. What is known is that she was severely beaten, her skull was fractured in two places, and she is suffering from brain damage. She spent 11 days in two different New York City Hospitals.
She is now home in Basel with her beloved cats and husband and is facing a long road of healing ahead. Optimistically there is hope that with good care and proper treatment Katerina will fully recovery in the next six months.
For decades Katerina has given so much of herself to the emotional, physical and spiritual health of others as a yoga teacher, hospice volunteer, friend and community member. She is a very private person, and it is difficult for her and Nicholas to ask for help but regretfully their financial need overshadows their need for privacy. The unexpected hospital bills, the loss of past and future income and the on-going treatment Katerina will need during this time is overwhelming their resources.
It is going to take time, patience and persistence for Katerina to recover. As soon as she feels ready to communicate directly with people, I am sure that she will. Please help if you can, no donation is too small.
