Help Katelyn O’Brien & Jarod Denny Rebuild After Tierrasanta Plane Crash
At 3:30am on May 22nd 2025, Katelyn O’Brien and Jarod Denny’s lives were turned upside down when a Cessna 550 private jet crashed into their quiet Tierrasanta neighborhood — roaring down their street, into several vehicles, and stopping directly on their front lawn before erupting into flames. The crash triggered a devastating chain reaction, igniting nearby vehicles and unleashing explosions that rocked the entire block.
Katelyn was home alone at the time, running out her back door, ending up trapped in her backyard with their dog. With the fire closing in and explosions going off all around, She managed to escape to a neighbors yard, where they both had no way out. Alongside her neighbors, they were rescued by a heroic member of the community who ran toward the flames with a garden hose, carving out a narrow path through the chaos to safety.
Jarod, who was deployed to the Middle East at the time of the crash, received the devastating news from thousands of miles away. In a desperate effort to get home to Katelyn, he endured a grueling 48-hour journey, taking 4 flights to get home and be by her side.
As soon as Katelyn’s father heard what had happened, he too jumped on the next available flight and rushed to San Diego to be by his daughter’s side.
Though we are incredibly grateful that Katelyn and their dog made it out physically unharmed, the emotional and material toll is immense. Both of their vehicles were destroyed, and they have been displaced from their home — left to process not only profound trauma but also the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives to some sense of normalcy.
This GoFundMe has been created to help Katelyn and Jarod begin that journey. Donations will go toward:
• Replacing their lost vehicles
• Housing and related necessities
• Supporting mental health treatment
Remaining nonessential funds will be shared with the neighbors and families affected by this tragic event, and/or the organizations that supported recovery efforts, such as the American Red Cross, Zero8Hundred, The Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, Support The Enlisted Project (STEP), among others.
Thank you for your support, your prayers, and for standing beside Katelyn, Jarod, and the Tierrasanta community during this incredibly difficult time.
