On or about Saturday night on December 14, Katele woke up with a swollen lip and with blisters on her tongue. She started to also develop some red spots on her skin along with blisters. The following day on Sunday December 15, Katele woke up with even more blisters and still having swollen lips and blisters on her mouth which is when our father took her to the emergency room knowing that something was wrong. At the ER they told her that she was okay and they sent her on her way back home with antibiotics. The antibiotics did not help as she just got worse and from there our father decided to take her back to the emergency room and that is when they transported her to the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. As days go by Katele is getting worse. Her skin is now shedding, she has been put on a breathing tube as she cannot breathe on her own. Just today, December 19 she underwent eye surgery as some of the blisters started to appear on both of her eyes. Katele was diagnosed with a very rare, but life threatening condition called Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). SJS is a serious disorder of your skin and mucous membranes which causes a painful rash and blisters all over the body. Recovery from this condition can take weeks to months. Many cases of SJS are caused by an allergic reaction to a certain medication. Katele was prescribed Lamictal by her psychiatrist, this medication is used to treat bi-polar disorder.  We would greatly appreciate any donations for any expenses as we really do not know how long she will be staying at the hospital and our mom hasnt been able to work as she has been staying right by Katele’s side. We as a family are trying to stay strong for our sister. Those who know Katele know how lively, funny, and bright she is. She can light up a room with her smile. Thank you for all of your support! El o alrededor del sábado diciembre 14 en la noche, Katele se despertó con el labio hinchado y con ampollas en la lengua. Se le empezaron a desarrollar manchas rojas en la piel junto con las ampollas. Al día siguiente el domingo 15 de diciembre, Katele despertó con aún más ampollas y seguía teniendo los labios hinchados y ampollas en sus labios ahí fue cuando nuestro padre la llevo a la sala de emergencias sabiendo que algo estaba mal. En la sala de emergencias le dijeron que estaba bien y la enviaron a su casa con antibióticos. Los antibióticos no funcionaron ya que empeoró y nuestro padre decidió llevarla nuevamente a la sala de emergencias y de ahí fue transportada al Hospital de Niños de Arkansas (Arkansas Children’s Hospital) en Little Rock. Al pasar de los días Katele empeora. Su piel se está descarapelando. Le han puesto en tubo de respiración ya que no puede respirar por ella misma. El día de hoy, 19 de diciembre fue sometida a una cirugía de los ojos ya que algunas de las ampollas empezaron a aparecer en ambos ojos. Katele fue diagnosticada con un padecimiento bastante raro, mortal llamado Síndrome Steven Johnson (SJS, por sus siglas en inglés) SJS es un desorden serio de la piel y membranas mucosas que provoca sarpullido doloroso y ampollas por todo el cuerpo. La recuperación de este padecimiento puede tardar de semanas a meses. Muchos casos de SJS son causados por una reacción alérgica a ciertos medicamentos. A Katele le fue recetada Lamictal por su psiquiatra, este medicamento es usado para tratar el trastorno bipolar. Apreciaríamos profundamente cualquier donación para cualquier gasto ya que en realidad no sabemos cuánto tiempo permanecerá en el hospital y nuestra madre no ha podido trabajar ya que ha permanecido al lado de Katele. Nosotros como familia estamos I tentando permanecer fuerte por nuestra hermana. Aquellos que conoce a Katele saben lo llena de vida, graciosa e inteligente que es.
