Help Kat make David’s final wish come true.
Donation protected
A mere 5 days ago David didn’t wake up on time. When Kat was able to wake him, something was off. Very off. David didn’t seem to know where he was or what was going on and he was combative.
Was this a stroke? The EMTs weren’t sure. David’s symptoms didn’t fit neatly into the stroke field tests. Only extensive testing, two hospitals and multiple specialists would provide a definitive diagnosis: cancer. Not just cancer, terminal cancer.
David’s cancer is widespread, affecting multiple organs and every part of his brain except the visual cortex. Because of this, he loses words and struggles to make himself understood. This is especially frustrating as those who know him know that he is an eloquent wordsmith, a writer of books, a lover of history.
It is thought that David’s primary brain tumours are Glioblastoma. As they already know he is terminal and beyond medical intervention it doesn’t make sense to go any further and pursue invasive testing like biopsies. That would certainly lower his quality of life and goes against his legal medical directive. He still has lucid moments and, in those moments, is aware of his situation and what’s to come.
In light of that, he has asked what is perhaps the ultimate task of a spouse. He has asked Kat to document the end of his life in words and photos. As Kat is an amazing visual storyteller, he couldn’t have asked for anyone better equipped. It’s a difficult ask and an even more difficult task, especially for a spouse.
David has one other wish and that’s what this fundraiser is all about. David wants to go home. He wants to be with Kat & their pups. He wants the comfort of his books, pictures and his regular environment. This will require a monumental undertaking by Kat and others. They say it takes a village and it’s true. They will need medical equipment, including a hospital bed, help with transport and coverage of Kat’s wages and more than likely in-home nursing.
To say that your assistance in helping to facilitate David’s final wish would be appreciated is woefully inadequate and a monumental understatement. It would literally change the trajectory of David and Kat’s final chapter.
Thank you.
