Hello, my name is Daphne Tant.
I'm creating this in hopes of helping my fiance, Kason Todd, and our son, Killian. Killian is a little over a year old and just this week, we found out about our second baby being on the way. Against best efforts to avoid asking for help publicly, we have no choice at this point.
Kason is 25 and has always been a hard worker, he's done his best to take care of us. In this past April, Kason got sick. At first we thought he was just having some pretty bad seasonal allergies but not long after beginning to suspect something more possibly being the cause, he began having serious difficulty breathing. He persevered and worked through each week but by each weekend, had to check himself into the hospital where he was receiving steroids to open his airways back up, which seemed to be the only thing keeping him from suffocating. The doctors said it wasn't allergies or an allergic reaction to anything, nobody knows what caused this.
Then, by Sunday night each weekend, he felt he had no choice but to check himself out because of how desperate we'd been counting on the paychecks. We don't have much family or a support system, it's been very difficult and stressful to say the least.
After about two and a half months of spending every weekend in the hospital to get the steroids so he could breath a little easier, he pretty quickly developed some immunity and they weren't helping like they did in the beginning. With his breathing getting more difficult, this caused him to only be able to sleep a couple hours each night, made eating more difficult, and the fear of knowing his throat could completely close up at any minute and he could die, didn't help either of our state of minds. Kason has had 3 near death experiences due to this mystery medical problem...
After a few weeks of being maxed out on the steroids the doctors had him on and gaining immunity to them, sleep deprivation cost him his job. A couple days after losing his job, he had an appointment with the ENT specialists, where they tried a different steroid medication (the first shot of steroids recieved) which he had a bad reaction to and it caused him to pass out shortly after leaving the appointment. He had his second surgery after this episode. This time it was a Tracheotomy.
For the surgery Kason needs, it starts with $750 for a consultation with a specialist at Emory. All the while he can't work as he's legally unhire-able and still has monthly bills. We were told the surgery to essentially bypass his paralyzed vocal cords, so he can breathe normally again and finally have his Trache removed, is roughly estimated at $35,000. He was denied for medicaid but we're working on figuring something out. This is very scary. Anything will help, please. God Bless.
