"Help Kasike Tureycu & His Mother Rebuild After Devastating Fire"
A Plea from the Yukayeke YayaGuaili Taino Community
"Days ago, we celebrated Kasike Tureycu’s 60th birthday—a milestone of resilience and leadership. Today, we’re fighting to save his life after a fire reduced his home to ashes."
Kasike Tureycu, a disabled Indigenous elder and chief of the Yukayeke YayaGua Taino Ti, and his mother have lost everything in a sudden, devastating fire. The flames consumed their home, cherished tribal artifacts, medications, clothing, and irreplaceable memories. Now, with Kasike hospitalized and his mother in emergency housing, they face an impossible choice: Where do they go from here?
Why We Need Your Help
The fire left them with nothing. Kasike, already battling chronic health issues, lost his mobility scooter and life-saving medications. His mother, an elder herself, is stranded in temporary lodging with no belongings.
Without immediate support:
Kasike’s health could deteriorate rapidly without prescriptions and adaptive care.
They risk homelessness once emergency housing runs out.
Tribal work to unite interfaith and interracial communities—despite controversy—will collapse under this crisis.
How Funds Will Be Used
Every dollar raised will be directly distributed through our tribal 501(c)(3) to cover:
Urgent housing (disability-accessible, safe, and stable).
Medications, a replacement scooter, and medical supplies.
Food, clothing, and transportation for daily survival.
Rebuilding tribal resources lost in the fire.
Goal: $15,000 to stabilize them for the next 3 months.
A Call for Compassion Beyond Differences
Kasike’s commitment to unity has made him a target for criticism, but no one deserves to lose everything. As Taino people, we believe in lifting each other in times of need—regardless of past disagreements. This is about saving lives.
