After winning a prize at a regional competition, 5th graders at the Kentucky Avenue School (KAS) earned a spot to compete at the 2019 National Rube Goldberg Contest, and they need our help to get there! The students designed and constructed a complicated machine to perform a simple task: putting money in a piggy bank. Through collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills, the students built a fun machine that also works! (Check out the video above.)
The students will compete in the Apprentice Division against other regional winners throughout the country in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, April 5-7. Donations will go toward travel costs.
This fundraiser ends on March 21, 2019. Many, many THANKS to all who donate and who otherwise support KAS!
More about Rube Goldberg Machines:
A Rube Goldberg Machine is a crazy contraption which accomplishes a simple task in the most complicated – and funniest – way possible! Based on the “Invention” cartoons of the famous Pulitzer Prize-winning American cartoonist, Rube Goldberg, actual machines are at the heart of the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. They use everyday items (mostly junk!), they tell a story and, most important of all – they make you LAUGH.
More about Kentucky Avenue School:
