Help Karyn and Corey with medical expenses

Karyn and Corey Vincent live in Toquerville. They were an active family and enjoyed doing what active families normally do until mysteriously, in 2015, Karyn started to lose muscle strength in her legs and would sometimes just collapse. Over a period of four years, she completely lost her ability to walk and some use of her arms, without ever getting a proper diagnosis.

In February 2020, Karyn and Corey were able to go to the Mayo Clinic where she finally received an official diagnosis of ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. ALS is often called Lou Gehrig's disease, after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it. There is no known cure for this nervous system disease that weakens muscles and affects physical function.

In October 2021, Karyn had a bad infection that resulted in the loss of all function and a stay in the hospital. After a few days on major antibiotics, Karyn was still regularly losing consciousness which eventually sent her to the ICU. While there, it was discovered that her body was not properly releasing carbon dioxide, a fatal symptom of the disease. The solution was a tracheostomy with a ventilator and a feeding tube. Karyn's strong will to live has kept her going throughout this devastating process and she is now home and doing better. She can no longer speak and has minimal motor skills and therefore, she requires a lot of care. Corey, their three sons, and their daughter-in-law have all stepped up, learning how to keep her safe and comfortable, but she requires medical home care as well.

Karyn Vincent continues to be an ALS survivor. After a recent stay in the ICU, Corey's income and insurance are no longer enough to cover the equipment needed and financial repercussions of this disease. Many friends have asked if they can help so we are creating the GoFundMe campaign to financially assist Karyn and Corey during this difficult time.
