Three months ago, Karter was in a terrible car accident that turned our world upside down. He ended up with a spinal cord injury, lower leg paralysis, a broken sternum, broken ribs, and fractures in his L2, L4, and tailbone. Right now, we’re facing significant costs that insurance won’t cover for the equipment he needs every day, including a custom wheelchair and an electric attachment that helps him get around safely and comfortably.

Beyond the equipment, our biggest hurdle is access to care. Every single weekend, we make a three hour drive to Utah for specialized physical therapy. There is nowhere closer to home that offers the intensive treatment he needs to try and walk again. Between the constant gas, food, and hotel stays, the travel alone has become a massive financial burden on us.

Having the custom chair and electric attachment is a total game changer for Karter’s recovery because it shifts the focus from just surviving the day to actually thriving and getting stronger. The custom wheelchair is built specifically for his body, which is huge for his comfort since his ribs, sternum, and spine are still healing; it provides the proper alignment he needs to avoid long-term pain and pressure sores. The electric attachment is equally vital because the human shoulder isn't meant to do the work of a leg by letting the motor handle the heavy lifting on hills or long distances, Karter can save his energy and upper body strength for his grueling physical therapy sessions. Since we’re driving three hours a week to help him walk again, this gear ensures he isn't too exhausted to give 100% to his rehab, giving him the best possible shot at independence and reaching his goal of getting back on his feet.
