Friday, Karson was a happy 2-year-old, smiling and loving on his 1-year-old brother. His mom, Alexis, just 17 years old, put him to bed like every other night, not knowing the tragedy that would unfold the next morning. On Saturday, Karson had a seizure in his sleep, which caused him to go into cardiac arrest. He was found unresponsive and not breathing. Alexis and loved ones attempted CPR until the police and ambulance arrived. Karson was taken to the local hospital, but he could not be stabilized. He was then life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where doctors worked tirelessly to save him. Karson suffered severe swelling to the back of his brain from lack of oxygen, his liver was not functioning, and his vitals could only be maintained with medication. As a last hope, Karson underwent emergency surgery to drain fluid from his brain and remove a piece of his skull, giving his brain more room to possibly heal. Miraculously, he made it through the surgery, and hope began to rise again. But shortly after, his brain began to swell rapidly beyond the extra space created by the surgery. A CT scan confirmed the worst fears: Karson would not recover. Now, his teen parents must say goodbye and plan his funeral. They are still in high school and do not have the means to give Karson the service and cremation he deserves. They also have a one-year-old son who will now grow up without his big brother. We are asking for help to provide a service for Karson and to have him cremated. Any support will help ease the burden on this young family as they face the unimaginable loss of their baby boy.
