My name is Kristi Gaylord, and Karrie is my sister. I live in Rochester, NY. Karrie lived in an
RV on property she and her boyfriend own in the Santa Cruz mountains of California, upon which they were planning to build their home.
As some of you may already know, on August 16, a massive lightning storm ignited 22 fires in Santa Cruz county in California where Karrie lives with their two dogs and two cats. Santa Cruz was in a heatwave. It had not rained for months. They evacuated on Tuesday, August 18, fully expecting to return. She took her animals, passport, laptop, a sweatshirt and her Garmin. That’s it.
Yesterday they received confirmation that their RV and everything inside and outside of it is a complete and total loss.
Right now they are temporarily staying with a friend and are focused on purely functional things- finding a rental, buying socks, food for the cats and dogs. They have applied for FEMA assistance, which hopefully will help them, as they didn’t have insurance on the RV.
For those of you who know Karrie well, you understand that she is a very independent, prideful person. She fought the idea of this fundraiser. But the truth is, when you have nothing left, you need to answer the pleas from friends and family who want to do something, anything, to help you get back on your feet.
Thank you in advance for helping my sister and her animals recover from this devastation. We appreciate it more than you know.
