Help Karrar Become a Healthcare Leader – MSc at Imperial College London, the World's 2nd top university 2025!
My name is Karrar, and I’m an aspiring medical scientist from Iraq. I’ve worked tirelessly to pursue my education against immense personal and financial odds. I now have a rare opportunity to study at one of the world’s best universities: Imperial College London.
But I need your help to make this dream a reality.
From Iraq to the UK: A Journey of Resilience
Growing up in a region with limited access to research opportunities and basic healthcare services, I dreamed of becoming a scientist who could help improve lives globally. I was awarded a competitive full scholarship to study at University College London (UCL), selected as one of just 30 students out of more than 1,000 applicants worldwide. Despite facing significant personal and learning challenges, I graduated with a degree in Applied Medical Sciences.
This summer, I was also offered a placement at the University of Oxford, where I’m gaining practical research experience in the field I hope to pursue at Imperial.
Accepted to MSc in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare – but Facing a Funding Crisis!
I have been accepted into the MSc Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare at Imperial College London (please see the offer letter attached), one of the top global institutions in medical research. This course perfectly matches my career goal to contribute to life-saving work in global health and cardiopulmonary disease.
I aim to dedicate my research to Pulmonary Hypertension. This silent, life-threatening disease quietly destroys lives, especially in places where diagnosis and treatment are unavailable, and to develop novel medical devices to treat slow heart rate. I want to be part of the generation that changes that.
Unfortunately, tuition and living as an international student are overwhelming. The total price is £45,000, and I’ve only been able to secure 30% of this amount through a partial scholarship. Due to the terms of that award, I will lose this funding if I can’t raise the rest.
My Long-Term Goal and How This Degree Helps
My long-term goal is to become a clinical academic in cardiovascular medicine, someone who bridges research and patient care to tackle the global burden of heart disease.
The MSc in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare at Imperial College London is essential to this goal. It will give me rigorous training in clinical research methods, critical exposure to world-leading cardiovascular science, and the chance to learn from top experts at the National Heart and Lung Institute.
Through this program, I aim to explore innovative ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cardiovascular disease, especially in vulnerable or underserved communities. The MSc will equip me to pursue a PhD and ultimately contribute to evidence-based practice, novel therapies, and equitable healthcare systems that improve patient outcomes on a large scale.
Why I’m Asking for Help
As an international student with no access to UK student loans and with no financial support from my home country, I’ve exhausted every option:
- Applied to numerous scholarships and hardship funds.
- Reached out to trusts, organisations, and academic contacts.
- Explored loans (most of which are unavailable to international students).
- Started working part-time jobs, though they can’t cover overseas tuition
Now, I’m turning to this community—to anyone who believes in the power of education, resilience, and giving people a chance to change lives through science.
How Can You Help?
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to continuing my education and building a future where I can give back. You’re not just supporting a student, you’re investing in the future of healthcare, research, and global equity.
- £5 helps with daily living expenses
- £20 helps cover lab fees and study materials
- £100+ helps directly toward tuition
A Small Contribution That Can Make a Big Impact!
If you're working, please consider helping with an amount equal to just two or three hours of your time. That’s like giving up just 6-9 minutes daily over a month (20-day work time).
"Just 6-9 minutes a day over a month could help me pursue my dream, change the course of my life, and the lives of others I hope to serve in the future!”
For many, this may be around £20–£30, but any amount, large or small, will bring me closer to my goal. Your generosity will directly support my tuition for the MSc in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare at Imperial College London, helping me pursue my mission of improving care for patients with heart disease.
How the funds will be used:
All donations will go directly toward covering my tuition fees for the upcoming academic year. This includes:
University tuition fees: £45,000, 30% funding raised!
Your support will help me stay enrolled in my course and focus on achieving my academic and career goals without financial hardship. Every contribution makes a real difference. Thank you!
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing my story with others who might be able to help.
Final Words
I’ve made it this far through determination, hard work, and the kindness of people who believed in me. I want to continue making the most of every opportunity and one day help others the way I’ve been helped.
