My name is Karol and I need your help to re-enter the United States and advance my Master Program at USC.
After graduating Law School in my home country of Brazil, I moved to California to grow opportunities and make the most of my talents and hard-work. I needed a work visa to enter the United States, so I became an Au Pair while also working to get into USC.
My parents raised me to work hard and help people, and that’s why I am working to become a lawyer in the United States. I want to help people who need it. In 2021, I was overjoyed to learn that not only was accepted into USC Law School, I earned a scholarship. I do not have a rich family so this scholarship made my dream a reality. I was off to in-person classes.
Everything was on an incredible track until I was in Mexico on a trip and tried returning to the United States. I was shocked when Border Patrol held me and my dream came to a halt.
I was scared. I had no idea what they would do to me. After hours in a holding cell, I was deported back to Brazil. All of my belongings, my books, and my classes, as well as my friends, remained in the United States.
I’ve wanted to quit, this has been incredibly traumatizing, but I am not a quitter. There is always hope. And hope is what I found in the form of a waiver — this waiver, if approved, would allow me to return to the US.
My family and I in Brazil live a modest life. We do not have excess funds. The application form costs $1200 and attorney fees cost an additional $1300. My family and I simply cannot cover these costs on our own, which is why I am asking my friends and acquaintances for help. If we can raise the funds, I can apply for this waiver, and once awarded, I can return to USC and continue earning my Law Degree to help those in need.
