Hi Friends and Family. We are fundraising for my BFF, Karleen Montano. I, however, like to refer to her as "the Mayor of little Las Vegas, New Mexico" (our inside joke) because when I am there to visit, she takes me to a local store, and we will inevitably run into someone she knows. She immediately starts catching up on how their family is, the kids, grandparents, and anyone else near and dear. :) A 10-minute shopping trip can take 30 or more minutes. But that's the kind of person she is...thoughtful, caring, and always smiling. You can see the love and respect Karleen gets from our little town.

About 3 or so, months ago Karleen was diagnosed with breast cancer. She started her fight against BC with four rounds of chemotherapy. She had some spots on her lungs, but the doctors focused on the breast cancer, hoping the areas were scar tissue. After the chemo treatments, Kar went in for an MRI to see if the cancer cells in her breast had shrunk; they had. At the same time, the doctors saw that the spots on her lungs had also shrunk, identifying them as cancer cells, not scar tissue. She was immediately upgraded to stage 4 lung cancer. Karleen has a long battle ahead of her, with more upcoming treatments and surgeries. We want to support her in any way we can, and fundraising for her and her family is one way to help when she cannot go to work. Any amount is helpful and appreciated.

There is also the BOOBIE MOTORCYCLE RUN in Las Vegas, New Mexico, which has been running annually since 2014 when a classmate Angela Najar was diagnosed with breast cancer. B4B was formed aka B*tches for Boobies and is a group of local Las Vegas, New Mexican women that organize the fundraiser. This year they are sponsoring Karleen.
