Mother and Son Need Urgent Medical Care

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Karla García. I am a 43-year-old mother to my 4-year-old son. I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this… but today, I have no other option. On May 26, 2023, my son and I were hit by a heavy-duty truck in Mesa, Arizona while we were out shopping. In seconds, our lives were shattered. We both nearly died. I suffered catastrophic injuries: multiple broken ribs on both sides of my body, a fractured clavicle, severe liver and kidney damage, collapsed lungs, internal bleeding, a spinal injury, and deep lacerations. My son suffered multiple leg fractures, a severe open wound to his left heel, and metal fragments embedded in his eyelids. I was placed in a medically induced coma. My lungs and organs were failing, and I continued to bleed internally. I even developed pneumonia while fighting for my life. After 10 days with no improvement, I was transferred for ECMO — a last-resort life support treatment. Doctors told my family I had only a 40% chance of survival. I was on ECMO for one month. During that time, I suffered 10 strokes. But somehow… I survived. When I woke up, I had to relearn everything — how to walk, talk, eat, and live again. I spent 3 months without seeing my son while we were both fighting to recover. Today, my battle is far from over. I live with permanent conditions: pulmonary hypertension, chronic pain, dizziness, balance issues, and vision problems. I depend on daily therapies just to stay stable. My son underwent multiple surgeries to save his foot from amputation. Later, he was diagnosed with severe autism. He cannot speak, cannot eat solid food, and depends entirely on me for every basic need. We both require ongoing, specialized medical care. For a moment, there was hope. After more than two years, our legal case was finally resolved. But everything changed again. On November 24, while trying to renew my legal permit in the United States, my visa was suddenly canceled without explanation. I was detained, handcuffed, denied critical medication, and deported. In one moment, we lost access to the medical care that was keeping us alive. Today, we are in Mexico, where we do not have access to the specialized treatments we urgently need. Without consistent care, our conditions are worsening. This is why I am asking for your help.

Your donation will directly help us access:
• Life-sustaining therapies and treatments
 • Specialized care for my son’s condition
 • Essential medications
 •Medical evaluations and follow-ups
 •Travel for urgent medical care

 Every single donation matters.

If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our story.

That alone could help us reach someone who can. As a mother, my only goal is to keep fighting for my child… and to stay alive for him.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for giving us a chance to keep going.

God bless you all.

Karla.
