MOST RECENT UPDATE:

Unfortunately, Karina's immediate family was not able to make the trip to the United States in time to be by her side. While this has been deeply heartbreaking, we are grateful that a family member who lives here in the U.S. will be transporting her ashes back to Bolivia.

Her family is waiting with open arms to receive her and give her the proper burial she deserves, surrounded by the love and care of those who knew her best.

The funds we are raising will be given directly to her family so they can use them for any expenses they may need to cover during this very difficult time.

We continue to thank everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. Your generosity and kindness have meant so much to us.

Lamentablemente, la familia inmediata de Karina no pudo hacer el viaje a los Estados Unidos a tiempo para estar a su lado. Aunque esto ha sido profundamente doloroso, estamos agradecidos de que un familiar que reside aquí en los EE. UU. será quien transporte sus cenizas de regreso a Bolivia.

Su familia la espera con los brazos abiertos para recibirla y darle el entierro digno que merece, rodeada del amor y cariño de quienes mejor la conocieron.

Los fondos que estamos recaudando serán entregados directamente a su familia para que puedan usarlos en cualquier gasto que necesiten cubrir durante este momento tan difícil.

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved Karina has passed away last night. She fought bravely against her illness, and although her time with us was far too short, her strength, courage, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her.

We are now focusing on honoring her last wish — to have her family by her side one last time. Unfortunately, her parents and brother are still in Bolivia, and we are doing everything we can to bring them here as soon as possible so they can say their final goodbyes before she is cremated.

We are asking for your continued support to help cover the urgent travel expenses and related costs to reunite Karina’s family with her during this incredibly difficult time. Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference, and we are forever grateful. Any additional help, no matter how small, will bring her family one step closer to fulfilling this final farewell.

Support Karina Vidangos

In 2022, our beloved friend Karina Vidangos was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She faced the diagnosis with courage, strength, and an unshakable will to live. After enduring treatment, she believed she was on the path to recovery.

But in 2023, Karina received devastating news: she had developed hepatic rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that progressed rapidly and changed the course of her life once again.

Living in Bolivia, Karina struggled to access the care she needed. The country’s economic crisis, medical shortages, and insurance challenges made treatment inconsistent and incomplete. Refusing to give up, Karina made the brave decision to travel to the United States, praying she could find better care here.

By the time she arrived, however, the cancer had already advanced. And while there was some hope, her body was no longer strong enough to endure the treatment. Then came the heartbreaking words no one ever wants to hear: there was nothing more doctors could do.

Through it all, Karina has remained a fighter — filled with grace, faith, and love.

Her final wish was to return home to Bolivia, to be surrounded by the familiar comforts of her country and loved ones. Sadly, that is no longer possible. So now, we are doing everything we can to bring her family — her mother, father, and brother — to the U.S. to be by her side during this most difficult time.

En 2022, nuestra querida amiga Karina Vidangos fue diagnosticada con cáncer de ovario. Enfrentó el diagnóstico con valentía, fuerza y un deseo inquebrantable de vivir. Tras varios meses de tratamiento, creyó que estaba en camino hacia la recuperación.

Pero en 2023, Karina recibió una noticia devastadora: había desarrollado rabdomiosarcoma hepático, un cáncer extremadamente raro y agresivo que avanzó rápidamente y cambió el rumbo de su vida una vez más.

Viviendo en Bolivia, Karina enfrentó enormes dificultades para acceder al tratamiento adecuado. La crisis económica, la escasez de medicamentos, y las limitaciones del seguro médico impidieron que recibiera la atención que necesitaba. Con esperanza y determinación, Karina tomó la valiente decisión de viajar a los Estados Unidos para buscar una mejor oportunidad de atención médica.

Lamentablemente, cuando llegó, el cáncer ya estaba muy avanzado. Y aunque había una pequeña esperanza de tratamiento, su cuerpo ya estaba demasiado débil para resistirlo. Entonces recibió las palabras que nadie quiere escuchar: ya no hay nada más que los médicos puedan hacer.

A pesar de todo, Karina ha seguido luchando con una fuerza, fe y gracia admirables.

Su último deseo era regresar a Bolivia, rodearse de los paisajes y personas que ama. Pero tristemente, eso ya no es posible. Por eso, estamos haciendo todo lo posible para traer a su mamá, papá y hermano a Estados Unidos, para que puedan estar a su lado en este momento tan difícil.
