Hi everyone! I’m Karina and I’m a full-time wheelchair user. I have Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Inflammatory Arthritis, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I’m unable to walk due to knee flexion deformities (aka contractures).

I’m fundraising for a power wheelchair. My doctor actually prescribed me a custom one, but I’m having trouble with my insurance coverage and I can’t wait any longer.

My manual chair causes me a lot of pain and fatigue to push, which limits my ability to do everyday tasks such as going to the bathroom and preparing food. I also can’t get to doctor’s appointments on my own as I need someone to push me. Soon I will be starting Physical Therapy which will increase the amount of appointments I have per week, and I won’t always have someone to come with me.

My goal is to raise $5000 so that I can purchase a Jazzy Air 2, which has an elevating seat. It’s not custom like the one my doctor prescribed, but it would save my energy, allow me to go to appointments on my own, and help me reach things around my house.
