Help Kari & Thomas Through This Critical Time

Hi everyone, my name is Kat, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear friends Kari (“Care Bear”) and her husband Thomas. They’ve been married for eight years and are truly soulmates—the kind of couple whose love and laughter fill every room. Kari is one of the most caring, hardworking, and hopeful people I know, always showing up for others and her community. Thomas is her rock—funny, strong, and protective. They are deeply loved by everyone who knows them.

What Happened

Thirteen days ago, Thomas was rushed to the ICU with severe necrotizing pancreatitis. He has been in critical condition ever since. He’s currently on a ventilator and kidney dialysis, and just underwent surgery to remove necrotic tissue from his pancreas. By the grace of God, he made it through surgery, but the next 24 hours remain critical as doctors monitor his blood pressure and decide when to perform the next procedure.

This sudden health crisis was the result of alcohol-related illness—something Thomas, Kari, myself, and many of our close friends have all faced on our shared journey of recovery. Together, we are supporting one another through love, faith, and hope—one day at a time.

Kari has not left Thomas’s side since he was admitted. She’s been sleeping in his hospital room every night, holding his hand, praying, and doing everything possible to bring him comfort. Last night, we even tried a Reiki healing session to help bring him peace—and today, by some miracle, he was strong enough to go into surgery.

Why We’re Asking for Help

This has taken an enormous emotional and financial toll. Thomas’s long hospital stay, multiple surgeries, and critical care are creating massive medical bills. Kari has taken unpaid leave from work to be by his side. Without help, she’s at risk of losing her home if Thomas doesn’t recover.

We are raising funds to help cover medical expenses and basic living costs during this incredibly difficult time. Every dollar and every prayer makes a difference.
