Our dear friend Kari is working to rebuild their independence after a series of difficult setbacks, stemming from a three-car collision in bumper-to-bumper traffic that totaled their car.

Following the accident and unable to pay the $14,000 in damages owed, they lost their driver’s license—creating a ripple effect that has impacted nearly every part of daily life. Without reliable transportation, Kari was unable to continue working at Overhill Plant Nursery. Since then, their options have been limited, as getting to work, school, appointments, and even to the grocery store is much more difficult when relying on public transit and biking, or rides from loved ones.

Despite these challenges, Kari has persisted and is working multiple part-time jobs, while pursuing a degree and navigating ongoing health issues and other setbacks. Their partner has been carrying much of the financial burden, but Kari wants and needs to regain their independence so they can return to work consistently and rebuild stability.

The universe has thrown us a bone, however! The debt collectors have offered to settle the debt for less than half the original amount owed! The catch: it must be paid by May 31st.
