UPDATE: At the end of July 2022, Kari's cancer journey took a plot twist. Read below for the cancer journey (thank God she is cancer free after making it through radiation), but the latest scan showed a brain aneurysm which will require her to be out of work (from her own business) and without income for some time.

Brain surgery is 12/12. Let's help this sister, mama, wife, daughter, grandma, warrior get back on her feet!

Kari is always helping others... it's in her nature to be there for people, plants, and animals. Now it's our turn to help her! 

At the beginning of August 2021, Kari was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the throat with primary tumor at the base of the tongue and metastatic involvement of lymph on one side.

 

August was a flurry of CAT scans, PET scans, MRI, biopsies, consults, and even a surgery to remove some questionable lymph nodes. It was the month of hurry up and wait.

 

Now, a treatment plan has begun. Kari is having radiation treatments six times per week (twice on Friday). This will kill the cancer but will be a difficult course of treatment. (But thankful that no chemo is in the plan)

 

Since Kari works cleaning homes and maintaining gardens by herself, she doesn't have sick leave. Thank heavens Scott has health insurance for them through his job, but the copays and out of pocket expenses are piling up. Without Kari's income, they have more to worry about than the cancer. She has been unable to work much due to having 3 or more appointments and procedures every week, surgery, and now daily radiation treatments. Docs are saying she will likely not be able to work at all after a couple weeks of radiation because the pain will be quite intense.

 

Funds are needed to cover medical bills and lost income that would normally cover living expenses while Kari is out of work, likely til the end of the year.
