My name is Kari Welch and our family was poisoned by toxic mold and had to leave our old townhome last August. Since then, my health has deteriorated to the point I was diagnosed with levoscoliosis this year as well as degenerative disc disease. I have two bone spurs flattening my spinal cord, one at my T7-T8 and the other at my C5-C6, which I am awaiting surgery for as the nerve damage caused by it has affected my strength, dexterity, and ability to hold things. Unfortunately, because of this, I haven’t been able to do hair as I usually do since the middle of February. I just passed my state insurance test, which will provide me the opportunity to start making money, but I haven't received my license number yet.

Our family got a letter of approval for some rental and utility assistance on April 1st, but we still haven’t seen any funds, which is causing our family so much stress. We were able to make it until now, but we are completely tapped out until we receive any help and I am able to start making money. My partner is on disability with Crohn's disease and unable to pick up any slack that I usually take care of for us. We had to pay money we didn’t have to keep our water on this last week. We are in a place of desperation and we find it very difficult to ask for help, but it would greatly reduce the amount of stress coming from all of this, and if I am ever able to help you in a time of need, you better believe I will not hesitate.

I did plan for a potential disability and I’m only 39. I had plans for the money I had accumulated only to be forced to use it to survive. I’m hoping that with insurance knowledge I didn’t have prior, I can help others not end up in the situation I have been in.
