UPDATE:

My sweet brother crossed the last river late September 2024. His will to live was strong, but his body couldn’t sustain it.

The targeted therapies we were hoping and praying for didn’t exist for his type of cancer. All the collected funds were sent to Docrates hospital in Helsinki to cover testing and treatments.

My family and I are eternally thankful for everyone who helped his cause financially and everyone who prayed for him or got in touch with him. Kari was often so moved how people, some that didn’t even know him wanted to help. Thank you for all the love you showed for my brother!

My brother, Kari, was diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer one year ago. The cancer had already spread to his liver so surgery to remove the primary tumor wasn't an option. He has gone thru radiation and multiple rounds of chemo for secondary tumors in his liver. About a month ago, the public healthcare in Finland stopped treatments stating there is nothing more they are able to do. Kari is not ready to give up on life yet and has the option to pursue private treatment.

There is a private cancer hospital in Finland with treatment options not available in the public hospitals. To get started, it would cost 5,000 euros (about $5,500) for labs and tissue DNA diagnostics to identify targeted therapies and another 5,000 euros (about $5,500) for the treatment. I am asking for your help to help my brother, whom I dearly love.

Kari is a great father and a pillar in the family, a go to guy, everyone's handy man. Our aging parents rely on him to advocate for them as well as for practical help. His two teenage sons need their father.

Kari has devoted most of his career to non-profits working with children and families. In his free time he enjoys classic motorcycles and building stuff with his hands.

All collected funds will go towards medical bills. Anything remaining, should the treatments be stopped, will be used for medically-related expenses and care. I live in the U.S. and will pay for his medical bills directly to the hospital.

Auta Karia pääsemään tarvittaviin syöpähoitoihin

Veljeltäni Karilta löydettiin suolistosyöpä noin vuosi sitten. Syöpä oli levinnyt jo maksaan, eikä leikkaus ollut mahdollinen suolistosyövän hoidossa. Kari on käynyt läpi useita kierroksia sädehoitoja ja sytostaatteja. Hoidot lopetettiin julkisessa terveydenhuollossa noin kuukausi sitten. Kari ei ole vielä valmis luovuttamaan taistelua.

Yksityisessä sairaalassa olisi mahdollisuus jatkaa hoitoja, jotka eivät ole mahdollisia julkisessa terveydenhuollossa. Päästäkseen näihin hoitoihin, Karin tulisi maksaa ensin 5000 euroa laboratoriotutkimuksista ja kudoksen DNA-näytteestä, jolla etsitään oikeanlainen hoito Karille. Tämän jälkeen maksettavaksi tulisi toiset 5000 euroa itse hoidoista. Pyydän, että auttaisitte rakasta veljeäni.

Kari on mahtava isä ja tukipilari perheessämme, aina valmis auttamaan läheisiään ja ystäviään.

Ikääntyvät vanhempamme tukeutuvat häneen monien asioiden hoidossa. Hänen kaksi teini-ikäistä lastansa tarvitsevat isäänsä.

Kari on omistanut suurimman osan työurastaan työskentelylle lasten ja perheiden parissa eri järjestöissä. Vapaa-ajallaan hän harrastaa moottoripyöräilyä ja nauttii monenlaisesta nikkaroinnista.

Kaikki kerätyt varat käytetään ensisijaisesti sairaalahoitojen maksuihin. Jos hoidot joudutaan lopettamaan yksityisellä puolella, loput kerätyt varat käytetään muihin terveydenhoitokuluihin. Asun Yhdysvalloissa ja tulen maksamaan hänen hoitoih liittyvät laskut suoraan sairaalaan.

Pienikin summa auttaa rahoittamaan nämä elintärkeät hoidot.
