Hello, my name is Alexa, and I am honored to be Karen’s sister. Karen is a loving 43-year-old mother to two wonderful boys and a devoted wife to her husband, Chris.

Nearly two years ago, Karen was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) breast cancer, beginning her treatment journey in the Dominican Republic. After careful consideration, she and her family made the difficult decision to continue her care in Boston. There, she received a second diagnosis: a Bosniak IV renal tumor.

Due to the complexity of her condition, her surgical team in Boston will be performing a total nephrectomy—not a ureteral reimplantation, as originally discussed. In addition, Karen is scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy in November to continue addressing her breast cancer.

The emotional and financial strain this dual battle has placed on her and her family is immense.

The funds we raise will go directly toward covering Karen’s medical expenses not covered by insurance—such as travel to and from Boston, and everyday living costs while she is unable to work.

As we look ahead, Karen faces two major surgeries, ongoing treatments, and a lengthy recovery. This is a journey no one should have to walk alone, which is why we’re reaching out to our community of family, friends, and compassionate strangers who believe in the power of solidarity.

Karen is currently traveling between the Dominican Republic and Boston for her treatments, all while she and Chris strive to support their two sons—one in college and the other still in high school.

Karen has always been the first to lend a hand to those in need. Now, it’s our turn to stand by her.
