My name is Karen, and I am a single mother living on disability in St. Louis. Last night, the vacant building next to my home collapsed onto my roof, causing severe damage and leaving my family in a very difficult situation. This property has been a source of problems for years—since 2016, I’ve dealt with falling bricks, broken windows, and ongoing safety concerns like drug activity, squatting, and even violence. Despite my repeated efforts to contact the owner and get help from the city, nothing was ever truly resolved. The building was officially condemned after a tornado in May, and the owner is currently being sued by the city for willful negligence, but unfortunately, the legal process has dragged on without results.
As a single mother with very limited resources, I simply don’t have the means to cover the emergency repairs my home now desperately needs. I don’t have insurance, and I’m worried about keeping my family safe and secure. The funds raised here will go directly toward making the urgent repairs so we can stay in our home and begin to recover from this disaster.
Any support you can give would mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for reading my story and for considering helping us during this incredibly challenging time.
