On June 6, 2025, my sister Karen’s life changed in an instant. While caring for a widowed client, she suffered a devastating stroke and was later found on the bathroom floor by a family member. We still don’t know how long she had been there. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered significant damage to the right side of her brain, including the thalamus—the brain’s information relay center. Since then, Karen has faced weakness on the right side of her body, loss of coordination, sensory deficits, cognitive challenges, and extreme fatigue. Her recovery has been further complicated by serious infections like pneumonia and sepsis, leading to multiple hospital readmissions. Now, 10 months into her recovery, Karen is still fighting every day. She is currently unable to return to work. As a single mother to her 10-year-old daughter and the sole provider, this has created a heavy financial burden. Karen is now relearning how to walk and talk again. She is making encouraging progress, but ongoing physical and occupational therapy and consistency are critical to her recovery. Karen is kind, hardworking, and deeply compassionate. She has always made people feel safe and cared for, bringing joy and laughter even in difficult moments. Now, she needs that same support. Funds raised will help cover her therapy, home equipment, medical treatments not fully covered by insurance, rent, essential living expenses, and support for her daughter. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help Karen focus on healing and support her daughter during this difficult time. Please help Karen keep fighting.
