Hi, my name is Audra Emmerich, and I’m writing on behalf of our mom — Logan’s Gigi — Karen Levitt, the center of our family and the strongest woman I have ever known.
Four years ago, our world changed when my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. Since then, she has fought every single day with the courage I can barely put into words. She has endured spinal surgery, chemo, radiation, brain tumors, hair loss, ER visits, oxygen dependence, and a thousand moments where most people would have given up.
And through all of it, she has shown up with humor, with grace, and with a stubbornness that kept her going through pain many lung cancer patients never survive.
Right now, she is at Northern Westchester Hospital with a severe lung infection, on IV antibiotics and barely able to walk a few steps. And even now, she is still trying, still fighting, still pushing through.
Once this infection is under control, she will be moved to a skilled rehab facility to finish treatment. But after that… everything shifts.
My mom has made the brave decision to stop cancer treatment. After four years of doing absolutely everything asked of her, she wants peace. She wants comfort. She wants dignity. And we want that for her too.
Because of her declining condition and the emotional toll of caring for her at home, we are hoping to move her to a hospice facility where she can spend her final days safe, comfortable, and surrounded by compassion — not fear, pain, or chaos.
Insurance covers hospice care, but it does not cover room and board, leaving families to shoulder these costs alone. And the truth is: we can’t do this alone.
We are raising funds to give my mom the one thing she has earned a thousand times over — a peaceful, dignified end to a fight she never deserved but faced with unimaginable strength.
Every donation, every share, and every message of support helps us make sure she is cared for in the way she deserves.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for caring about my mom, and for helping us give her the comfort she has earned. Your kindness means more to our family than we could ever put into words.
With Love,
Audra, Doug, Logan, and Robert
