My name is Karen, and I’m the primary breadwinner for my household, which includes my adult autistic son and our small farm of animals. Back in October, while working on my fence to keep my goats safe, I pinched a nerve in my neck. This injury has cut off circulation to my right arm, causing constant pain and muscle spasms. I haven’t been able to work since then, and I’m scheduled for surgery on the 10th. With no income coming in, my bills have been stacking up, and I’ve even lost access to food stamps due to changes in government assistance. My son, although high functioning, has trouble driving and isn’t able to work, so I’m responsible for making sure we’re all cared for.
Our small farm is home to eight goats—seven of whom are pregnant—a pig, five dogs, and six cats. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward feeding my animals, providing food for myself and my son, keeping the insurance on our home, and fixing a propane leak so we can cook safely. Right now, we’re relying on a two-burner electric stove top, which makes things even more challenging. Every bit of support will help us get through this difficult time and make sure our basic needs are met.
It’s hard for me to reach out and ask for help. If I could go to work and earn the money, I would. I’ve had blessings in my life, and I truly appreciate any and all help I receive from others. If anyone can help with just a few dollars, it would mean the world to us. I’m usually the person helping others, but now I find myself needing to ask for help. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation.
