Hello everyone,
My name is Karen Gonzalez and I am a recent graduate from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor's degree in music business/jazz studies (2019), and The New School with a Master of Arts in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (2021). I am reaching out to you today to ask for your support in helping me raise $5,500 by June 1st to attend Jazz Camp West in Northern California. Starting June 10th! As a passionate musician, I am committed to pursuing a master's degree in jazz studies and hope to enroll in the fall of 2024. To do this, I need to prepare for pre-screens and auditions for a variety of schools, including Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, City College, Queens College, The New School, University of North Texas, California State University Long Beach, and Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. In order to properly prepare for these auditions, I need to train and take lessons.
Unfortunately, my time in the jazz program at my undergrad was difficult and often discouraging as I experienced many challenges. However, I am determined to overcome these obstacles and pursue my dream of becoming a jazz performer. Attending Jazz Camp West will provide me with the opportunity to work on my fundamental skills in music and reconnect with my passion for jazz. This camp will also allow me to network with other musicians and learn from experienced instructors and will help advance me in my audition preparations!
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to grow professionally and academically in this program. Any amount you can donate is helpful and greatly appreciated. The $5,500 I am raising will cover the tuition for the program, lodging, food, round trip plane ticket, and a week’s worth of earnings to compensate for the week of work I will have to miss to attend the camp.
Any additional funds raised will cover any unexpected costs that may arise before or after travel. I am committed to using my education and experiences to create change in jazz education. I want to see more equitable learning environments for women and non-binary performers, students of color, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Attending Jazz Camp West is the first step in achieving this goal. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering a donation to help me attend Jazz Camp West.
