Help Karamo Start His Taxi Company
At just 17, Karamo is the sole provider for his family. His parents died years ago, leaving him and his little brothers in the care of his grandmother who is old, infirmed, and unable to work. As the oldest brother, Karamo is responsible for feeding his whole family, but that is not easy, and they are starving.
Karamo lives in The Gambia, where there are very few options for making money and opportunities are hard to find. There are only two ways for Karamo to feed his family right now: asking for charity from strangers and foraging for items in the wilderness to sell.
Often Karamo and his little brothers are forced by hunger to illegally collect small sticks and branches to sell for firewood. With so few opportunities, they don’t have a lot of other options. Tired of risking so much to bring in so little money for his hungry family, Karamo decided he needed to come up with a plan.
In The Gambia, most people cannot afford a vehicle, so many people rely on taxi cabs to get from place to place. Karamo decided that a taxi business would be the best way to support his family and bring in enough food for them to eat every day.
Karamo knows people who have successfully used taxi businesses to lift themselves out of dire poverty, and that is his dream. He hopes to not only guarantee enough food to eat, but maybe one day even buy a home.
How will Karamo bridge the gap from not having enough money to feed his family to being able to purchase a taxi to start his business? That’s where you come in.
Karamo estimates that he can purchase the taxi and launch his business with just a few thousand dollars. He has the local connections and understanding necessary to run the business successfully, he just needs our help to buy the taxi.
