Hi, my name is Kara Nicole. I’m 24 and have a 3 year old son.
I was diagnosed with Pancolitis Ulcerative colitis (as well as now pouchitis, cuffitis, gastritis, strictures, fissures, PCS, fibromyalgia and lupus and possibly chrons now)
So, here’s a bit of my story.
This past year in January, after begging my GI doctor to help me since 2019, I got diagnosed and after having a colonoscopy finally and being told it was so bad it was as if you were to look at the back of your hand with it covered in 3rd degree burns, that’s what my colon and rectum looked like. I was given 6 mo- 1 yr. After that, my case was so serious they sent me to Cleveland Clinic where another colonoscopy was performed and they immediately scheduled me for emergency surgery that next morning. That’s when I woke up with an ileostomy bag from a total colectomy, which is when they remove all 5ft of your colon and also rectum, then bring your small intestine through your stomach to go to the bathroom that way. 4 more surgeries later including another emergency surgery from a twisted bowel blockage, TPN line to feed me nutrients because I was so malnutritioned and so many procedures and medications, I’m back at square one and seem to only be getting way worse. At 5’10 I’m back down to 118lbs. I can only eat a couple bites of food a week anymore. I was told to consult Dr. Remzi, a world renowned surgeon and IBD specialist out of New York City because he is known world wide for figuring out complicated cases of UC, Chrons, and colon cancer, as well as fixing JPouch’s, which is what I have now instead of a colon and rectum. When I see him, I will most likely need more surgeries, including having to possibly go back to an ileostomy bag again. My symptoms and pain have got pretty bad to the point where Dr.Remzi and his office recommend I come to their Langone New York City emergency room ASAP.
My problem is, I’m am tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt, I do get disability but it’s barely enough to pay utilities, I thankfully have my parents, but they can only do so much. and I’m worried about the costs of even being able to fly to and from New York City however many times I’m going to need to and the expenses of the stays as well. I feel embarrassed reaching out like this. I just want to be able to start paying some of my debt, and be able to hopefully have some help with the expenses of having to go to and from New York City now for my care as well as current medical bills and daily living expenses, being I’m unable to work due to all of this. Every now and then while this is going on, I’ll be refreshing the goal amount, as I started as low as possible. It’s worth giving it a shot.
Please, if you cannot donate do not feel obligated! If you can even share this, all of that is SO greatly appreciated.

I have and will be updating current pictures below along the way.
Love and thanks,
Kara.
