My name is Kara, and I am a mother to 9-year-old twins, Jennifer and James. Lately, life has been especially challenging for us. My daughter Jennifer, who is medically complex, has been sick on and off and was recently hospitalized. This has put a lot of emotional and financial stress on our family. About a year ago, after being homeless for a year, we were blessed to move into a two-bedroom apartment. While we are grateful to have a roof over our heads, our apartment is on the 10th floor, which poses a significant risk for Jennifer, who uses a wheelchair for mobility. In the event of an evacuation, we have to call 911 for assistance, as I am unable to carry Jennifer and ensure James gets down safely.
As we continue to bring more of our belongings out of storage, the space is becoming increasingly cramped, especially for Jennifer and her medical equipment. I need to reconfigure our apartment to create a safer and more comfortable living space for both of my children. This includes hiring someone to move Jennifer’s specialized bed and organizing her supplies. On top of that, I am behind on rent, car payments, and utilities, and the twins continue to need essentials. James has outgrown his winter boots and clothes, and Jennifer, who has severe pica, needs her clothing replaced frequently.
I am doing everything I can to provide for my children, but right now, I need help to stabilize our home and move forward. Your support will help us catch up on rent, secure transportation, provide essentials for the twins, and make our apartment safer for Jennifer. Most importantly, it will give us the breathing room we need to work toward a more accessible home and a stable future. Any help you can give would mean the world to us.
