G'day,
My name is Nick Haddow and I am helping my cousin Verity and her husband Brenton who run Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action.
My real job is the owner or Bruny Island Cheese Co in Tasmania. I know what it feels like to run a business on an island and also what it feels like to be affected by a bushfire - the Huon Valley (where we have our dairy farm) suffered a similar devastation last year.
So I thought I would start this page to try and help Verity and Brenton out. They need help. And they would never ask for it themselves.

Hi everyone,
As you probably know, Kangaroo Island has been hit pretty hard with bushfires in recent weeks.
After weeks of continuous attacks, from multiple fire fronts, and we feel like we have dodged a massive bullet. Both our properties at Little Sahara and Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action suffered considerable fire damage but not total destruction and all of our tours and activities are still fully operating.
Yes, we survived and our business is still going, but Kangaroo Island tourism has taken an almighty hit in what should have been our busiest month for the year. Like many other tourism businesses on the island we are currently 80-90% down at the moment. We have sadly had to let go of staff (luckily they have all found jobs elsewhere on the mainland) and are doing whatever we can to get through this rough period. This is the time of year when we would normally be saving money to get us through the quiet winter months ahead (normally about $50-60k) - right now, we are managing to pay our staff and not much else.
We might have survived the fires, but we're not sure we will survive the aftermath.
Trust us, this is not easy for us to say, but...
WE ARE GOING TO NEED SOME HELP!
We really appreciate anything you can do to support us right now. If you are unable to help us financially, please spread the word for us. Or, even better, plan a trip to Kangaroo Island, book a tour with us and help us (and other businesses on the Island) directly.
